Hi I’m Shelly! I’m a personal trainer and fitness instructor, specializing in mindful movement.
I started my career teaching fitness classes as a student at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. As a freshman in college I fell in love with how connecting my breath to the movement of my body helped me to focus my mind on something other than the stress and anxiety I’d become so familiar with. I loved it so much, I started teaching when the yoga club on campus found itself without an instructor.
After a decade of teaching movement, I’ve found my passion: helping busy people learn how to turn their workouts into moving meditations. I am a firm believer that any movement practice or physical exercise should be a celebration of what our bodies and minds are capable of. I plan my classes around moving how it feels good, challenging what we think we know about ourselves, and practicing gratitude for all that our bodies do for us on a daily basis.
In addition to earning a Master’s degree in Psychology, I’ve completed several certifications and training programs over the years, including…
- Meditation Teacher Training, 100 MTT (2021)
- ACE Personal Trainer (2020)
- National Pilates Certification Program & Club Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training, 500 NCPT (2020)
- Cloud Nine Yoga Teacher Training, 200 RYT (2014)
- AFAA’s Group Fitness Certification (2013)
In addition to these teacher training programs, I have advanced my skills by acquiring additional certifications and attending workshops with Barre Above, Barre Intensity, Barre Variations, Pilates Suspension Method, BOSU, TRX, Trigger Point Therapy. I’ve also attended Jivana Heyman’s Accessible Yoga course and Kathryn Bruni-Young’s Mindful Strength Immersion course.
